This brochure guides walkers and drivers along the roughly 100 km pioneer route between Augusta and the Vasse (now Busselton). The Bussell, Molloy and Turner families and other early settlers opened it in the 1830s. It can be done in stages and is suited to backpackers. The introduction tells the story of the Augusta settlement in 1830 and the move north to the Vasse. It covers John Bussell’s explorations, the Adelphi, Cattle Chosen and Fairlawn, and the part played by Georgiana Molloy and the Turner family.

The trail notes cover sites such as Augusta’s first landing site and Turner’s cellar, Adelphi, Chapman Brook and the Rapids. They also cover Busselton Jetty, St Mary’s Church, Wonnerup House and the Vasse Inn and Ship Tavern. It touches on the early relationship between settlers and local Aboriginal people, including the later conflict and the death of George Layman.
