Privacy Policy

We are dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of our local community in Western Australia. We value the trust you place in our society and are committed to protecting the privacy of our members, donors, and researchers.

This policy explains how we handle information when you visit our website, ask us a research question, make a donation, or interact with us online.

1. Contact Forms and Ancestry Research

When you use our contact form to submit an inquiry, including requests for family history or ancestry research, we collect the information you choose to share with us. This may include:

  • Your name, email address, and phone number.
  • Names, dates, and historical details about your ancestors and/or your reseach object.

We use this information solely to answer your questions, consult our local archives, and assist you with your research. Because ancestry research often involves collaborative historical work, our society volunteers may review your query to help find answers. We will never sell your personal details to outside third parties.

2. Secure Online Donations

If you choose to support our society by making a financial donation through our website, your payment is processed securely by Stripe, a leading third-party payment gateway.

  • Payment Security: Our website does not see, collect, or store your credit card or bank account details. All financial transactions are encrypted and handled entirely by Stripe.
  • Donor Records: We do receive your name, email address, donation amount, and the date of the transaction from Stripe. We keep this minimal information in our internal records so we can manage our non-profit accounting.
  • More Information: You can view how your payment data is managed by reading the Stripe Privacy Policy.

3. Website Usage and Analytics

To help us understand which historical articles and local archives are most useful to our visitors, we collect basic website usage data using a tool called Microsoft Clarity.

  • What is tracked: Clarity uses cookies to show us how visitors navigate our site, such as where they click or how far they scroll.
  • Your privacy is protected: We use strict privacy settings that automatically mask and blur out any personal information before it ever reaches the analytics system.
  • More Information: For more details, you can read the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

4. Cookies

Our website uses "cookies" (small text files saved on your computer or device) to ensure our system works securely and to power our traffic analytics. You can choose to disable cookies in your web browser settings at any time. Doing so will not prevent you from exploring our local history pages.

5. Links to External Archives

Our website links out to external repositories, government archives, and other historical groups. We do not control those external websites and encourage you to check their respective privacy policies when you visit them.
