Main Street Historic Walk – Site 8

In 1927/8 Robert Leslie built a new bake house which was sold to Ernest Mansfield who lived here from 1932/3 until 1934/5. In 1944/5 George Dines owned the bakery until 1965 when Alf Brennan became the new baker. Since then several bakers owned the bakery: Dave Cridge, Mr Farley, Mr Van Der Sluis and Alex Bilchuris who in 1980 completely renovated the Margaret River Bakery and Cafe.

If you would like to learn more about the local history of Margaret River, visit The Old Settlement Museum down the river.

The old school, the group settlement house, the blacksmith workshop, and many other buildings with household items, tools and machinery offer an insight into the history of early life in the district and the families that once lived and worked the land.
