Main Street Historic Walk – Site 49

This building was built for Jack and Agnes Thomas and it was used as a news agency and drapery shop for many years.The news agency was mostly operated by Mrs Agnes Thomas as well as her son Stewart and daughter Moya Dempster. The drapery was operated by Mr Jack Thomas as well as his stepson Bob Dunbar. Both shops were sold/renovated into what is now the estate agencies of First National and Acton.

The old school, the group settlement house, the blacksmith workshop, and many other buildings with household items, tools and machinery offer an insight into the history of early life in the district and the families that once lived and worked the land.
