Preserving Our Past to Inspire Our Future
The Margaret River and Districts Historical Society is more than just a collection of buildings, it is the keeper of our region’s soul. From the early days of the Group Settlement Scheme to the development of our world-renowned dairy and timber industries. Our history defines who we are today.
As a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organization, we rely entirely on the generosity of people like you to keep these stories alive. Every dollar donated goes directly toward the physical preservation of our heritage and the cataloging of our shared memories.
Where Your Gift Makes a Difference
Restoring Our Historic Buildings.
Our site at the Old Settlement is home to vital pieces of local architecture that require constant care. Your donations fund essential repairs, timber preservation, and structural maintenance to ensure these buildings stand for another century.
- The Bramley School: A window into the early education of settler children.
- The Groupie House: One of the few remaining original Group Settlement dwellings, showcasing the ingenuity and hardship of pioneering life.
- The Blacksmith Workshop: A tribute to the grit and manual skill that built this town.
Preserving Museum Artifacts
We house an extensive collection of original farming machinery, blacksmithing tools, spring carts, household equipment and many other historic items. These artifacts are prone to rust and decay. Your support allows us to purchase restoration materials and storage solutions to prevent the loss of these mechanical treasures.
Connecting Families to Their Ancestry
For many, Margaret River is where their family story began in Australia. We maintain an archive of settler materials, photographs, and records that are a primary resource for those researching their genealogy. Donated funds help us digitize these records, making our history accessible to descendants across the globe.
A 100% Volunteer Effort
We have no paid staff. When you give to the Margaret River Historical Society, you aren't paying for corporate overhead, you are buying timber for floorboards, oil for a vintage engine, or archival materials for old photographs. Our volunteers provide the labour and the passion, you provide the means to make it possible.
