Main Street Historic Walk – Site 48

First owned from 1948/9 by Bruce and Mabel Boulter. In 1972/3 Allan and Patrica Hillier constructed a building which consisted of the town's first arcade including several shops. The shops consisted of an estate agency known as Hillier and Errey, Farm Advisory operated by John Chadwick, Agricultural Protection Board operated by Lance Ridley, Allan Hillier second hand goods auctioneer, Electrical goods operated by Bob Fletcher and picture framing by Colin Martin. Since then the whole site has been renovated and a more modern complex housing real estate agency of Stocker Preston.

The old school, the group settlement house, the blacksmith workshop, and many other buildings with household items, tools and machinery offer an insight into the history of early life in the district and the families that once lived and worked the land.
